LOTTOMATICA’S GTECH SUBSIDIARY SIGNS FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH THE NORTH CAROLINA EDUCATION LOTTERY TO CONTINUE PROVIDING ONLINE AND INSTANT LOTTERY PRODUCTS AND SERVICES THROUGH MARCH 2017

GTECH to Assist Lottery in Growing Sales Through Digital Advertising Displays and Additional Self-Service Lottery Products

PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND and ROME, ITALY – (August 21, 2009) – Lottomatica Group subsidiary GTECH Corporation announced that it has signed a four-year contract extension with the North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) to continue providing online lottery technology and instant-ticket printing services, as well as new products, through March 2017. GTECH’s current combined compensation rate will continue through the term of its extended online/instant ticket printing and services contracts with the NCEL.

“We are grateful to continue our partnership with the North Carolina Education Lottery, which dates back to their startup in 2006,” said GTECH President and CEO Jaymin B. Patel. “Over the next several years, we will work together with the Lottery to apply industry-wide best practices, assist them in expanding their self-service product line, and deliver new electronic point-of-sale advertising displays to further drive sales and help them to maximize revenues for education programs in North Carolina.”

Over the extension period, GTECH will continue to provide the operation and maintenance of the NCEL’s online/instant central system, which currently supports 6,000 online terminals but may increase to up to 10,000 terminals, communications network, as well as instant-ticket printing and related services. GTECH will also introduce ES MultiMedia digital advertising displays to stimulate increased awareness of the NCEL product line. The Company will expand the Lottery’s self-service network with approximately 550 lottery vending machines for the sale of both instant and online lottery tickets, providing additional convenience for players and retailers alike.

The North Carolina Lottery recorded more than $1.29 billion in total sales in its fiscal year 2009, raising more than $410.8 million for education programs in North Carolina.
