GTECH AWARDED CALL CENTER SERVICES SUBCONTRACTS IN ILLINOIS AND MAINE

(West Greenwich, Rhode Island  -- October 29 2002) – GTECH (NYSE: GTK) today announced that the Company will provide call center services for select automated government benefits programs in the State of Illinois and the State of Maine.

GTECH will act as subcontractor to Northrop Grumman Information Technology who will implement, operate, and maintain an automated government benefits system in Illinois. GTECH has also been selected as a subcontractor to ACS (Affiliated Computer Services, Inc.), in connection with ACS' recently-awarded automated government benefits system prime contract in Maine. These prime contract awards by the Illinois and Maine Departments of Human Services follow a competitive bidding process that involved a number of financial services companies.

Illinois
Under the terms of the proposed five-year subcontract with Northrop Grumman Information Technology, which is expected to commence in October 2003 and includes five one-year extensions, GTECH will provide client and retailer call center services, including manual voucher authorizations, terminal troubleshooting and dispatch, benefit provider problem reporting, client balance inquiries, transaction history, and account access verification.

Maine
Under the terms of the five-year subcontract with ACS, which is expected to commence in March 2003 and includes two one-year extensions, GTECH will provide client call center services, including account balance and general system inquiries, card activations, benefit availability, and transaction history. GTECH will also offer retailer call center services, including general information regarding policies and procedures, voucher authorization for food stamp purchases, settlement information, reconciliation procedures and data, and system and account problem resolution lines.

With respect to its subcontracts with Northrop Grumman Information Technology and ACS, GTECH expects to generate approximately $12 million in revenues over the five-year subcontract periods.
